DAY Trip : day trip in marrakech to tinmel

day trip in marrakech to tinmel will take us out of Marrakech in the early morning towards Ouirgane and Tinmel Mosque. We will drive through an olive plain that will take to the administrative centre of Tahanaouet known for its weekly traditional market. We will visit a traditional Argan Cooperative to learn about how the Argan Oil is being produced, the cooperative is run by local women that has become an important source of income to them. We will, then, take the snaky road to Asni village known for its Saturday weekly market. Every week Berber farmers would bring their produce including goats, organic vegetables, sheep…etc to sell. In return, the would buy sugar, vegetable oil, plastics, electronics and much more. The drive will, then, take us through the lush valley of Ouirgane with its olive trees covering the whole valley. A nice drive through the spectacular road by the High Atlas Mountains, Berbers villages built in adobe and stones at the edge of the Mountains is a great chance for nice pictures. After driving through the village Ijoukak will take us to Tin Mal Village. From a distance, we can see the remains of the Tin Mal or Tinmel Mosque. Tin Mal was the cradle of the Berber Almohad empire, from where the Amohads conquered the Almoravids in the 12th century. The Tin Mal Mosque was built in 1156 to commemorate the founder of the Almohad Dynasty, Mohamed Ibn Toumert. The Mosque is one of the two mosques that are open to non-muslims, the other being Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca. We drive back to Marrakech the same scenic way we came and return at some time in the early evening.
